  • This fantastic journey combines beautiful scenery in the Andes and the colorful lifestyle of the local people in the highlands. It starts in the ancient Inca capital, of Cusco and veers off towards Lares (3,100mt/10,170ft) in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, traveling through small communities, observing many fields of Andean products, pristine lagoons and mountains. On this fantastic trip we use llamas as pack animals, like back in the days of the Incas. (horses are also used) Crossing the pass (4,500mt/14,760ft) we continue hiking the amazing Andes catching views of some birds like the powerful Condor or the Andean Cara Cara. Enjoy a soccer game with the local children during our adventure and also pick up some weaving handicrafts. Dip into the Lares hot springs and soak your body. Sleep comfortably in a hotel in Ollantaytambo. Hike the short Inca Trail, the best leg of the Inca Trail visiting Wiñay Wayna and admiring the many birds and fauna. Our final visit will be of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu which will leave you mesmerized.

Day 1 Arrive in Cusco the Capital City of the Incas – Free Day

Arrive in the charming city of Cusco (3,350 mt/10,991 ft.) and we will whisk you to your hotel in the heart of town. Check in and have a briefing on your upcoming trek and things to do in Cusco. Enjoy a day at leisure acclimatizing to the high altitude.

Day 3 Cusco – Huaran – Cancha Cancha
We will pick you up from your hotel in the morning and travel by private transport for approximately 2 hours to Huaran (2,840m/9,317ft), a small village in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the start of the trek. Here we meet our handlers with llamas and horses, to begin the cultural hike through the lush valley, following the gentle uphill route of the Cancha Cancha River. This hike will take us through the picturesque village with the same name where we will set up camp for the night (3,934m/12,903ft).

Duration: 5-7 hours – Distance: 6Km/4m approx. (the distance of hike will depend on your physical condition)

Day 4 Cancha Cancha – Pachacútec Pass – Quiswarani
After breakfast, we depart our campsite and begin a steep ascent to the Pachacutec Pass (4,700m/15,416ft), highest point of the trek. From here there are spectacular views of the snow-peaked mountains, Colque Cruz, Serijuany, Sawasiray, lagoons and the surrounding valleys. After the pass, we continue walking, descending into the next valley to reach the village of Quiswarani (3,900m/12,792ft) where will spend the night. Along the route, the scenery is breathtaking – there are glacial lakes, and waterfalls. This area is also rich in birdlife with a possibility of seeing the Andean ibis, Andean geese and flamingoes amongst others. We will spend some time with the children and women weavers.

Day 5 Quiswarani – Cuncani – Lares Hot Springs – Ollantaytambo

Wake up very early and have breakfast before starting our hike. Our walk will take us with an ascent of about 3 hours to reach the Huillquijasa Pass (4442m/14569ft), the second highest pass of the trek. The views are impressive and worth the climb! Thereafter, we descend towards the village of Cuncani for about 2 hours passing beautiful turquoise lakes along the way. Continue by transport to the Lares hot springs to enjoy a dip in the volcanic waters. Have a delicious lunch before boarding our transport to our hotel in Ollantaytambo. We will visit the Inca town which maintains the urban design from Inca times.

Day 6 Ollantaytambo – Train – Short Inca Trail Km104 – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes

Our guide will meet you in the morning and walk to the nearby train station in the same town to board the expedition train to Chachabamba at Km 104. Here we will walk to the check point to present our permits and passports. Then we start our fabulous walk around the Vilcanota River (Urubamba River) to visit one of the Inca archeological site of Chachabamba. The triangular walls showed that they were once houses with thatched roofs believed to be a sacred site. Then a gradual climb walking on Inca steps for about 3 to 4 hours until we reach the cloud forest. Stroll through lush vegetation until reaching the meadows. Thereafter, we hike to Wiñay Wayna (“forever young”, 2,650mt-8,692ft), an important administrative and agricultural center for the Incas. Enjoy a box lunch here whilst taking in the lovely views of the many terraces. After lunch we hike until reaching Sungate (Inti Punku) to catch stunning vistas of Machu Picchu below. You will have plenty of time for pictures before walking down to Machu Picchu (2,400mt- 7,874ft). We will take a side trail to take the shuttle bus down to Aguas Calientes to spend the night in a comfortable hotel of your choice.

Day 7 Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Tour – Train – Ollantaytambo or Poroy Station – Cusco
After an early breakfast, our guide will meet you in your hotel at the agreed time and wait online for your turn to board the shuttle bus for a 25 minute ride up to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. Take pleasure in a professional guided walking tour, visiting the citadel once lost in time. Our first visit will be of the guard house to observe the agricultural farming terraces, Funerary Rock where the Incas were mummified and catch spectacular views of Sungate up above and Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu below. Stroll to the extraordinary Temple of the Sun with exceptionally carved stones, The Sacred Plaza with the Temple of the Three Windows which features the huge trapezoidal windows. Walk up to the Intihuatana the solar clock and finally visit the temple of the Condor. After a mesmerizing experience, feeling the energy of the past, exit the park with your guide. Return to town by shuttle bus and have lunch on your own. Board your train to the Ollantaytambo or Poroy station and private transfer to your hotel.

  • Any unexpected situations occurred during the journey and which are beyond our control, including changes in scheduling trains or flights, delays, strikes, cancellations, missed connections, etc., shall be covered by the passenger as a whole. If you cannot continue the trek due to physical or health reasons and you would require emergency evacuation then all charges incurred such as transportation, hotel, ambulance, doctors, medication, hospitalization, etc., will be at passenger’s expense. You will be accompanied by one of our staff members back to Cusco or Machu Picchu. This is why we recommend purchasing travel and health insurance. This is money well invested! Our prices are per person in double occupancy (matrimonial or twin) in US dollars, thus if you want a single room you will need to add a supplement cost.

Occasionally, after coordinating your trip with our travel consultant, there could be slight changes in your itinerary or hotels because you want to spend more time in places that interest you, avoid long distances, have more free time or avoid tourist concentrations. These changes will increase or reduce the final price.
