Day 2 Lima – Cusco the Capital of the Inca Empire – Horseback Riding Cultural Adventure
This morning we will take you to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Arrive in Cusco (3350m/10,990ft), where our staff will greet you and transfer to your hotel. Relax in the charming city of Cusco declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1983. Have an early lunch.
In the afternoon, our guide will meet you in your hotel and drive above Cusco to start the cultural adventure horseback riding.
We will visit Sacsayhuaman, the immense Sacred Temple with huge boulders. Some sections of this place were first built by the pre-Inca Killke Culture around 1100. The Incas expanded this site in the 13th century constructing the huge stones. Since 1944 an annual theatrical representation of Inti Raymi is held on June 24 in Sacsayhauman. Continue to the Inca site of Qenqo, a place known for rituals. Then we will drive to the nearby ranch to meet our horses and receive an orientation and safety tips. The adventure begins horseback riding to the mysterious Zona-X which is full of caves, tunnels and rocky limestone formations. Along our route we will have spectacular views of nature, mountains, potato farms and llamas and alpacas. Arrive in Huayllarcocha where we will leave our horses and board our transport passing by Tambomachay and Puca Pukara on our back to Cusco.

Today we are going to visit the fabulous highland community of Chinchero (3762m/12340ft). We will watch a traditional colorful weaving demonstration in a local´s home. The people from this village live from farming, raising animals and weaving textiles. See them dying wool, spinning it into yarn and weaving it on their looms. You will have an opportunity to purchase some of their shawls (mantas), belts (watanas), and caps (chullos), amongst other items. ToursTrekperu supports these people in the struggle to maintain their traditions and customs. Now our visit takes us to a Chacra where a local family will teach us of the ancient techniques of farming and you may participate in the action. Enjoy a picnic lunch prepared by our chef at the Andean lake of Huaypo surrounded by mountains and farms. While the meal is being prepared we will do some kayaking or stand up paddling with a wet suit and under the supervision of your guide. Then enjoy a delicious meal before going to your hotel.

Day 4 Urubamba –Hiking the Short Inca Trail KM104 – Wiñay Wayna Inca Ruins – At last Machu Picchu!
We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning and drive to the train station in Ollantaytambo to board the Vistadome train to Chachabamba at Km 104 (2100m/6888ft). Here we will walk to the check point to present our permits and passports. Then we visit one of the Inca archeological sites of Chachabamba that was discovered in 1940 – almost thirty years after Hiram Bingham rediscovered Machu Picchu. The triangular walls showed that they were once houses with thatched roofs believed to be a sacred site. Afterwards, we will continue with a gradual climb walking on Inca steps for about 3 to 4 hours until we reach the cloud forest. We will walk through lush vegetation until reaching the meadows. Thereafter, we hike to Wiñay Wayna (“forever young”, 2650mt-8692ft), an important administrative and agricultural center for the Incas. Enjoy a box lunch here whilst taking in the lovely views of the many terraces. After lunch we will continue hiking towards the cloud forest until we reach Sungate (Inti Punku) to catch stunning vistas of Machu Picchu below. You will have plenty of time for pictures before walking down to Machu Picchu (2400m- 7874ft). We will take a side trail to take the bus down to the village to spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

After breakfast, our guide will meet you in your hotel to take the first bus for a 25 minute ride up to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. Take pleasure in a professional guided walking tour, visiting the citadel once lost in time. Our first visit will be of the guard house to observe the agricultural farming terraces, Funerary Rock where the Incas were mummified and catch spectacular views of Sungate up above and Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu below. Stroll to the extraordinary Temple of the Sun with exceptionally carved stones, The Sacred Plaza with the Temple of the Three Windows which features the huge trapezoidal windows. Walk up to the Intihuatana the solar clock and finally visit the temple of the Condor. After a mesmerizing experience, feeling the energy of the past, exit the park with your guide to have lunch in the Tampu Restaurant in the Sanctuary Lodge. After lunch return to town with your guide to take the Vistadome train with panoramic windows to the Ollantaytambo or Poroy station. Upon arrival in the station we will whisk you to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 6 Pinipampa Red Tiles – Rumicolca the main gate of Cusco – Rafting the rapids of Cusipata
This morning we leave our hotel to Cusipata about a 1.5 hours’ drive with beautiful scenery. Our first stop will in the village of Pinipampa where the locals are dedicated to making the red tile shingles by hand. You will see the red tile roofing on many homes. Afterwards, we will stop by Rumicolca (3330m/11,000ft) which is thought to have been a large aqueduct built by the Wari civilization and later adopted by the Incas and made improvements to the structure and referred as the main gate of Cusco.
On our arrival at Cusipata (3317m/10880ft), you will feel the adrenaline rising waiting for your adventure of rafting the wild tides. We will get settled in a have a safety chat and instructions before receiving your equipment. Then we will drive for 10 minutes to Chuqui to start the long awaiting rafting. Ride the rapids of II and III+ feeling ultimate excitement for about 2 hours. After, the thrill we will return to the campsite and have lunch. You can shower and relax in the sauna. Return to Cusco.

Our prices are per person in double occupancy (matrimonial or twin) in US dollars, thus if you want a single room you will need to add a supplement cost.
Occasionally, after coordinating your trip with our travel consultant, there could be slight changes in your itinerary or hotels because you want to spend more time in places that interest you, avoid long distances, have more free time or avoid tourist concentrations. These changes will increase or reduce the final price.
